Sample Size-One Slice

Big Bang for Your Buck

I stopped into this pizzeria after wandering around for a bit trying to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. The smell from outside made my mouth water and I had walked by earlier only to see delectable pizza taking up nearly an entire table. I checked the menu briefly and the prices seemed reasonable for the area.

When I entered, I waited only a minute until a server/bar tender approached me and asked what she could help me with. I asked if they sold pizza by the slice and of course, luck holding, they did. So I asked for a slice of cheese and she said it would be $3. She only took a minute and came back holding a bag with a plate inside. I handed her my money and after I had my change, I walked back to my apartment, eager to begin my meal.

I plopped down in a chair and opened the bag to find what I thought was two slices, how odd, between two paper plates inside. However, when I pulled it out, I realized that it was just one slice and it was massive. There must only be four slices in a pizza considering how big this one slice was. I was astounded and it looked delicious. The cheese was perfectly melted on a palate of tomato sauce and there was plenty of crust for me to enjoy.

I took my first bite and was flooded with warmth and flavor. It nearly melted but with an excellent crunch to the crust. The sauce was salty yet slightly sweet but neither was overwhelming. It was a great blend of flavors with a punch of oregano that only served to make it even better. The cheese was a great mix and melted to perfection, creating a seamless flavor in my mouth.

Now let's take about the crust, the coup de grace in any great Italian pizza. It was a nice thin crust but not so thin that you could see thru it. It was crisp and crunchy yet slightly fluffy, so it wasn't hard or dried out. It was still nice and toasty and coated in wonderfulness. It was brick oven or some other variation that was close to it. It was the perfect bottom layer to this slice of heaven.

Overall, it was a great local experience. I'm glad to have found it.

Pushcart Pizza is located on Salem Street in the North End, Boston.
