Goody Glover's

Old World Pub Style

Goody Glover's is an old world pub located right at the mouth of Salem Street in the North End. It has outdoor seating and an upstairs lounge. The atmosphere is relaxed, almost carefree and the business always seems to have a steady supply of people no matter when you walk by.

The bartenders can mix a good drink and the Sultry Siren is definitely a martini worth trying. The bar also offers a selection of draught and bottled brews included local and overseas varieties.

There are two bars, one on the ground floor and one in the lounge. The pub itself is gothic but with splashes of color and attitude. There are actual lit candles on the walls and large pointed chandeliers which hang from above you. The furniture is old school and wooden, some of the benches look almost like church pews. It's a fun mix of old culture with new ways.

The menu is quite varied from bistro offerings to soups and salads and a number of eclectic sandwiches plus full dishes. The pub also offers traditional Irish fare such a Shepherd's Pie and Corn Beef and Cabbage. It's simple, classic, and tasty.

I had the Black Angus bacon cheeseburger with handcut fries and it was definitely cooked to perfection. The outside of the burger was fire grilled and the inside was moist and pink. It was topped with onions, tomato, and lettuce, plus the usual bacon and cheese. It was served on a massive sesame seed bun and had to be squished to fit into my mouth. The fries left something to be desired but weren't terrible. They were definitely cut fresh, skins on, and seasoned wonderfully. However, the measure of a good fry is how many you can eat without topping, the answer was less than five, which is below my usual tastes. But when paired with ketchup, the fries were definitely worth finishing.

Overall, I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars in my book. Great location and drinks, decent food, and a friendly staff. Plus it was clean and very relaxing. Made me long to be back on the River Liffey.
